Buyer's Guide: Best Surface Cleaner

Tips For Choosing a Surface Cleaner Machine

What is a "surface cleaner"? A surface cleaner is a specialized and/or built-in vacuum cleaner that is specifically designed to remove dust, dirt, and grime from surfaces. They come in many different styles. Some are hand held hand operated (H.H) models, while others are wheeled industrial models. In this article I will review the various types of cleaners and what they have to offer you. There are a few basic things you should know before moving forward:

Hand held "brush-like" vacuum cleaners are great for small and narrow areas such as hard to reach nooks and crannies. The consumer-grade pressure washers on the market today can clean larger areas quickly, more thoroughly, and safer. A small, lightweight brush-like surface cleaner with an assortment of attachments is all you need to take apart large items like cabinets or shelves. They also come in handy for removing grime from carpeted areas, especially those with nylon or vinyl backing. Hand held "brush-like" vacuum cleaners are very versatile and come in many different styles.

Spinning or "rope-style" vacuum cleaners are the most popular style today. You use the handle to start the motor and release the tension by letting go of the rope. These cleaners are usually powered by electric, although some newer models are battery operated. The biggest advantage is their ability to even clean small tight spaces that other hand held and even pumping pressure washers cannot reach. They're also quite inexpensive and compact.

A "Dryers" is another type of surface cleaner that is used for more intense cleaning. Dryers come in both cordless and corded forms. Cordless dryers are perfect for washing boats and smaller areas. Once again, because they have a smaller cleaning space, they require more caution when cleaning and may require you to apply a lubricant. You don't have to use a pressure washer on a boat; however, if you must, use the dryer to clean out any standing water.

If you do use a vacuum to clean, you should use a product to help keep your hands from being contaminated. When using a pressure washer on a wet surface, you are spreading the chemicals around, potentially coming into contact with your eyes. Use an eye wash before using a hand dryer to help prevent this. Also, be sure to use a good, thick towel to wipe dry yourself after the session is over. It's best not to lay your hands on any loose debris when you finish your surface cleaner session.

For larger areas such as cars or a large factory, you can rent a pressure washing machine to clean these larger areas. A pressure washing machine is a combination cleaner/washer. One compartment is dedicated to the pressure washer and the other to the water. One compartment will fit into the other and can be opened for cleaning the washer while the other compartment can be opened for washing the car.

A newer type of dry cleaner, which has been quite popular recently is the elkins Pressure Washing System. The elkins system can also be found at auto Body shops. Elkins Pressure Washing Systems come with two separate compartments and each compartment has a separate wand for cleaning different areas. One compartment has a large suction hose that is used to clean outside the vehicle and another compartment has a wand for deep cleaning the vehicle interior.

Most consumers find that the dry cleaners above are quite good at what they do. They do a great job and can be used for a variety of household cleaning chores around the home. If you need to clean more than eight GPM, you may want to look into an additional vacuum cleaner that can clean higher GPM areas.
